Title:Gen. Adelbert Ames, U.S.A.

Portrait of Brigadier General Adelbert Ames (1835-1933), a sailor, soldier, and politician. He served with distinction as a Union Army brigadier general during the United States Civil War. He was brevetted major general and received a Congressional Medal of Honor for gallantry at the First Battle of Bull Run. Postwar he was Provisional Governor of Mississippi (1868-1869), U.S. Senator from Mississippi (1870-1874) and Governor of Mississippi (1875).
