Title:Gen. Alex. Asboth, U.S.A.

Portrait of Brigadier General Alexander Sandor Asboth (1811-1868). Born in Hungary, Asboth moved to the United States in 1851 and served as a Union brigadier general (brevet major general) in the United States Civil War. After the war he was appointed U.S. Minister to Argentina and Uruguay. Asboth's commands included garrisons from Kentucky and Ohio.
