|Title:||Gen. Joseph Hooker, U.S.A.|
Portrait of Joseph Hooker (1814-1879), a career soldier and Union major general in the United States Civil War. His nickname, "Fighting Joe" Hooker, came from a clerical error that stuck. Hooker is best remembered for his stunning defeat by Confederate General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863.
