Portrait of James Lowry Donaldson (1814-1885), a soldier and author who served as a general in the Union Army during the United States Civil War and was noted for his proficiency in military logistics. He was first Chief Quartermaster of the Department of the Cumberland and was then promoted to brigadier general (brevet major general) and Chief Quartermaster of the Military Division of Tennessee.
