Part of a letter from Confederate soldier Robert C. Caldwell to his wife Mag Caldwell. Robert is serving as a private in Company C., 10th Battalion, North Carolina Heavy Artillery near Wilmington, N.C. Robert tells Mag that Union soldiers tried to capture men in his unit while they were on duty near Masonboro Sound. He says he was sent down to the Sound the previous night in the rain and has returned to camp without having any sleep.
