Letter from Robert C. Caldwell to his wife Mag Caldwell. Robert is serving as a private in Company C., 10th Battalion, North Carolina Heavy Artillery near Wilmington, N.C. Robert tells Mag he likes his current location, but does not know how long he will be there. He has one blanket, which is also his bed, and has cornbread, black coffee, and Nassau meat to eat. Buttermilk is one dollar a quart.
