Letter from Robert C. Caldwell to his wife Mag Caldwell. Robert is serving as a private in Company C., 10th Battalion, North Carolina Heavy Artillery near Wilmington, N.C. Robert writes that he is well but times are dark and gloomy. He tells Mag what to do with some money, and asks that everyone take care of his sick mother. He says again that he would like to get home to see his mother but does not think that will happen. He says that he wrote his brothers Charles and Dinson, and has received a few lines from his brother John.
