Letter from Robert C. Caldwell to his wife Mag Caldwell. Robert is serving as a private in Company C., 10th Battalion, North Carolina Heavy Artillery near Wilmington, N.C. Robert writes by candlelight in a cabin he helped build for winter quarters. He reports seeing blockade runner ships, and complains about the rations, including some meat brought from Nassau by the blockade runners. Food prices are high and several soldiers in his camp are still very sick.
