In this Dec. 26, 1866 letter to his wife Julia, Robert Toombs, representative in the Georgia House of Representatives (1837-1843), in the U.S. Congress (1845-1853) and Senate (1853-1861), discusses his upcoming travel plans for returning home. He tells his wife the daily news about their friends the Lawtons, Fergusons, Burts, Breckenridges, and Gwins. He expresses his hope for a pleasant journey for his wife, and closes with his usual affection for family and wife.
