Ainsworth Emery Blunt (1800-1865) was from Amherst N.H. In 1822 he was sent by the New England Congregationalist Church to an Indian mission at Brainerd, Tenn. In 1843 he arrived in the community of Cross Plains, now known as Dalton. The mission had closed. He served as postmaster of Cross Plains. In 1847 when this community was incorporated as Dalton, he was elected its first mayor. He was active in both community and First Presbyterian Church endeavors. The photograph was copied by the Eureka Copying House in Huntington, West Virginia in 1885.
