Description:

Thomas Noel Poullain (1793-1889). He was a planter and owned a cotton factory located at Scull Shoals on the Oconee River. It is said that he was one of the first three millionaires in Georgia. In 1825 he accompanied General LaFayette on his tour of Georgia. He served as LaFayette's personal physician. The photograph was taken by Cummings which was located at 48-50 North Charles Street, Baltimore, Maryland at the time the photograph was taken.
