Title:Letter: Centreville, [Alabama?] to Callie [King, 1856?]
Description:

Porter King, lawyer, future judge and Perry County representative to the Alabama legislature, while on court business in Centreville, [Alabama?], writes a letter, possibly dated 1856, to his wife Callie King, daughter of Joseph Henry Lumpkin. King tells Callie that he misses her and discusses a court case in which four slaves will be sentenced to death. Originally six slaves were tried, but two were acquitted. King tells his wife that he will try to get the Supreme Court to drop the charges against the other four slaves. He lists the slaves still being held on charges as belonging one each to Judge Graham and to Rickam, and lists two as belonging to McKenall. He will next go to Autauga, Alabama for more law work./NOTE>
