Description:

From Marion, Alabama, Porter King, lawyer, future judge and Perry County representative to the Alabama legislature, writes a letter dated October 30, 1856 to his wife Callie King, the daughter of Joseph Henry Lumpkin. In his letter, King expresses sorrow over the death of Bob Goree's wife and tells Callie that several of their friends went to Goree's home. He adds that Goree's wife will be buried in Greensboro, Alabama.
