On October 19, 1856, while travelling in a stagecoach to Selma, Alabama, Porter King, lawyer, future judge and Perry County representative to the Alabama legislature, writes a letter to his wife Callie King, daughter of Joseph Henry Lumpkin. King expresses his concern for their son Joseph. Callie and Joseph are in Athens, Georgia during Joseph's illness. King reports that while on his travels, he met Miss Nelson and Mr. and Mrs. Price in [Union Point, Georgia?], and that they will continue together on the stage to Selma.
