Description:

Porter King, lawyer, future judge and Perry County representative to the Alabama legislature, writes a letter dated to October 6, 1856 to his wife Callie King, daughter of Joseph Henry Lumpkin, informing her that he just got back from visiting cousin Mary Ann and mentioning conditions at home with the slaves and on the farm. He reports that he won three out of four of his state cases. In one case, Thomas Sanders, a friend of Joseph Troup Lumpkin, was fined $65.00.
