Description:

Porter King, lawyer, future judge and Perry County representative to the Alabama legislature, writes a letter February 13, 1852 to his fiancée Callie Lumpkin in which he expresses his delight in receiving permission from her father, Joseph Henry Lumpkin, for her hand in marriage. King suggests a marriage date of Thursday, February 19th. King also writes that his mother is very ill and that he is worried about her recovery.
