Title:Letter: [Athens, Georgia] to Callie [King, 1852-1856?]
Description:

Undated letter probably written between 1852 and 1856 from Marion Lumpkin Cobb, wife of Thomas Read Rootes Cobb and daughter of Joseph Henry Lumpkin, to Callie King, wife of Porter King and Marion's sister, about her loneliness at her husband's upcoming business travel. Cobb describes her feelings about marriage and the state of her aging parents. She also provides information about a recent trip to Savannah including a brief report of current women's fashion. Additionally, she tells her sister of a cooperative effort to procure a teacher for their daughters. Her husband Thomas Read Rootes Cobb would later found the Lucy Cobb Institute, a high school for young women.
