The Patterson Family Papers feature selected documents from the Patterson family of northern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The Pattersons owned and lived on a large plantation near Davidson. The papers mainly concern their business activities, real estate purchases, wills, and family correspondence. Also includes papers from several related families, especially their Cumming, Hodges, Potts, and Sloan connections. The bulk of the materials in collection date from 1761 to 1866.

The Patterson family was one of the first of European descent to settle in Mecklenburg County. The Pattersons owned considerable acreage, property and slaves.
