The theme of the postal cover, Southern men, supports the Confederate States; all others politically favor the United States. Postal covers are envelopes with printed designs commemorating an event, person, or cause. Some of these drawings are in the style of political cartoons. Although most of these postal covers are undated, they were created during the Civil War in support of the Union, with one postal cover in support of the Confederacy. They were collected by Alfred S. Lippman of Morgan City, La., who donated them to the Louisiana Research Collection in 2009.
